5 out of 5 stars An essential purchase for any TV with component input   August 27, 2008

Note this does not give you a high definition signal! All you need is a TV that accepts component input.

If you own a Wii and have not yet bought a component cable then you should seriously consider getting one. The standard Wii package only includes a SCART connection and in layman's terms that means a poor picture quality that is blurry edged and vague. You would not believe the improvement a component cable gives - I'd honestly go as far as to say that it's a real shame Nintendo don't give a component cable as standard.

By upgrading the connection with a component cable you get crisp edged graphics that are clear and much much better on the eye. I would say the quality is two or threefold improved. It has to be seen to be believed - similar to changing from a VHS video to a DVD!

You can check your TV is compatible by seeing if the back of the TV has a row of red green and blue sockets (for the picture signal), with 2 audio sockets (red and white) to accompany them.

This is one of the best purchases you can choose for a Wii system.

The official Nintendo cable will always offer a good quality signal - you know that you are getting what you pay for. However I must stress that there are 3rd party and cheaper options out there that are just as good, but there are also the bad 3rd party offerings too. I have personally compared both a 3rd party and the Nintendo cable in the past.

The Nintendo option will allow you to avoid the minefield that is 3rd party copies, but costs a little more for the privilege.

The component cable is great easy to use no setup needed just plug and play. Normally the writing on the wii is all blurred and is all sorta joined together but with this cable it's great, also the game play is much better im my opinion and the sound quality has improved too because the ends are gold plated unlike the ones that come with the wii.

only down side is that it arrived 1 day after expected arrival but who cares!

4 out of 5 stars An improvement, but certainly not a HD revolution for the Wii...   December 31, 2007

I've only recently got hold of a Wii, and for a little while I've been playing games using the bog standard component / scart adaptor cable that comes with it on my HD (up to 1080p) TV. I guess I'm at a disadvantage to begin with, because seemingly anything that's not 720i/p or 1080i/p looks blurry and terrible on my TV (due to it being LCD).

After getting hold of this cable I noticed a substantial difference. The cable itself is usefully long at two and a half metres and only requires a simple change in the Wii settings to output using 480p. On my TV, things are still a little blurry but overall it's a much more comfortable and viable experience. I feel that I can actually properly play games on it now :)

Although I didn't expect it to, 480p mode with this cable is in no way comparable to 720i/p or 1080i/p on an Xbox 360 and so if anyone thinks this cable is the answer to their prayers on that one, forget it. It is however much better and clearer than an SCART cable, as I found out by comparing Resident Evil on a SCART-equipped GameCube to the same game on Wii with this cable. (However, this is possibly not a fair test depending on how GC compatibility works on Wii).

In conclusion, if you've got an LCD TV that supports it, I'd heartily recommend it as it does make a difference. Just don't hope for a monumental leap in quality :)

I plugged the cable into my tv put it on the component input and no sound or video came out.
Maybe it is just a faulty product or perhaps my tv even though it does support component. Its a pioneer pdp-427xd if anybody knows anything.

If you own a wii and an HD TV this is a must have it brings the graphics of the wii to the ps3 and xbox 360. It makes such a difference and it makes games like battalion wars 2 look incredible when before you think it did and now it looks even better, It gives such crisp picture and brings out colour in so much more depth! Must have!
