Product Description

The biggest Olympic superstars are back and the only country they're representing is video game land. The team-up that fans could previously only dream of is back, as the worlds of Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog combine at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

Following the same format of the 2008 summer games tie-in you and your friends can choose to compete in authentic Olympics disciplines as everyone from Mario and Sonic to Bowser, Dr Eggman, Yoshi and Tails.

Only a few disciplines have been revealed so far, but already we know that the game is going to contain ice hockey and figure skating. There will also be new fantasy events such as Dream Ski Cross, which sees everyone competing in a Mario Kart style race complete with familiar looking power-ups and speed boosts. Realism isn't the goal here, just good old fashioned multiplayer fun.

  • Superstar team-up: Only the second game to include Mario and Sonic characters together, featuring the official Olympics license and input from Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto.
  • Worlds collide: Play as any of the characters from the original game - from Prince Peach to Vector the Crocodile, as well as first-timers Donkey Kong and Metal Sonic.
  • Added balance: For the first time in a Sonic & Mario game you'll be able to use the Balance Board for some events, if you have one.
  • The full monty: The new Festival mode lets you play through the whole of the Olympic Winter Games, including all the disciplines and an opening and closing ceremony.
  • Friendly rivalry: Mountains of multiplayer options, including four-player competitive tournaments and co-operative games.

4 out of 5 stars Good fun   July 15, 2010
Yorksteve (Yorkshire, UK)
Like most others I have enjoyed this game, it's good fun and much better than older Olympic style games I'd played before.

My biggest fear was that it would just be about pressing buttons as fast as you can with no real skill involved, but the controls are a lot simpler than that and the game makes use of the Wii controls to good effect. Technique is far more valuable than being able to press the buttons quickly, so I was pleased on that score.

The variety of events and characters is really good so you're not likely to get bored and even once you've played every event there is always the urge to go back and beat your previous best record.

My only gripe with this game is that you seem to spend an awful lot of time doing nothing - waiting for the game to load, pressing through the menus etc - as most of the events are pretty short. You can't ever really get on with playing for more than a couple of minutes and there are quite a few interruptions.

But I still recommend it and it's great fun if you can play against your friends. The graphics and music/sound are were also a pleasant surprise.

Grandchildren have played non-stopwith this game much to the annoyance of their mother. Says it all.I suppose I will be badgered for Mario & Sonic at Birthdays and Christmas for more of the same.

4 out of 5 stars mario and sonic wii game   June 17, 2010

Great fun to play for all the family, only touble is it takes a while to load each sport, it has to go thru a scenery process of the venues.

4 out of 5 stars Super game, lots of fun   June 11, 2010
Maj (London, UK)
Typical Super Mario, Nintendo Wii game. Easy to pick up and play, lots of fun for all the family, young and old.

4 out of 5 stars fun   June 1, 2010

I like this game. The price has been slashed a lot. It is a bit unrealistic because e.g. in skiing there are massacre jumps and loop-the-loops. There are strange charactars and strange games and game could maybe be a little bit more like the Winter Olympic Games. Overall I like this game and despite not being my type and a little bit strange, I give this game a full four stars (no more, no less). Tom Collins (aged 10)
