Forget single player then it is one of THE best games ever July 29, 2010 Br Cottrell (London) 1p is just practice for xbox live.
The number of levels and the amount of fun mean you could end up playing this game for days and days and days. I would place it in my top 3 of all games I have played over the past 20 or so years. A true classic.
I liek the level up system, progression of weapons and tactical decisions.
kept my free time very enjoyable!! July 29, 2010 J. Morris-ley (ENGLAND) i don't really want to wright a long review so i am going to keep this short and straight to the point(hopefully)
Campaign: The Campaign was amazing. stunning graphics and a great deal of action and never got boring at any point as you would hop from a character to another, from a squad mission to a full scale war, from Afghanistan to Russian then on to Brazilian and many other places.
Bad points on the Campaign was it was waaayyy to short and i would be very annoyed if i didn't have online. also i feel the jumping from character to character was a bit to confusing at first and i wasn't able to make a bond with my character as he would keep change into somebody else.
Online: very enjoyable and addictive. the ranking up system works really well and a massive list of different match mods so you will find yourself liking latest 3 modes. bad side is you will find people who play in a more hide in a corner and shot gun everyone who walks pass, way. they will be frustrating but using a grenade launcher gets them running from there holes. Perks are also a love and hate thing as some make the game-play enjoyable but others such as Last Stand where your enemies get's another chance to kill you even know you have just pretty much killed them.
all in all this game is one of the greats and all the frustrating things are minor and shouldn't Stop you buying this game.
and i can't w8t for black ops

Could have been better July 25, 2010 cdizzle Eagerly anticipated this game. Like COD4, the campaign was great fun and pretty exciting whilst being excessivly short- it took me a little over 4 hours on regular whilst veteran is a little easier than COD4. The storyline is a little far-fetched but it is beautifully presented so I'll let IW off on that one. I'd give the campaign 4/5
The COOP special ops is a brilliant addition to the series, much more varied, exciting and fun than the Nazi Zombies of COD WAW. My friends and I have spent many happy hours trying to beat our best scores etc, very addictive. My only gripe would be that there are no checkpoints on longer levels so to get to the 90% mark on veteran after hours of trying only to die is very frustrating, but overall, i'd give spec ops 5/5.
Lastly, the multiplayer is probably the biggest disappointment. I was initially blown away by the excellent quality of the maps and the variety of weapons and sheer number of challenges. However, after the equivilent of 13 days play (i should get out more, i know!)I'm pretty frustrated. The game does the majority of the work with relativly little skill required in comparison to its predecessors. For example, the idle sway where the weapon moves gently from side to side whilst aiming has been removed so it is very easy to line up long range shots using the iron sights of any weapon across the map. Recoil is non-existent on some guns like the ACR and the respawn system is geared for revenge kills, i.e. you kill somebody and they respawn very close so as to give them another chance to get you.
The remarkable thing about COD4 was that with the right perks and style of play, any gun could be THE best- they were beautifuly balanced but this has been more or less removed on MW2. E.g. the UMP45 with stopping power is 2 shot kill at reasonable range whilst the Vector is 4 or 5; as is the TAR21 whilst the ACR has no recoil. It's not hard to hit people with 2 shots, so again, there is less emphasis on practicing with various weapons and finding one that suits you and on being skillful with it.The power of the guns and no need for optical sights encourages people to use grenade launchers and the "danger close" perk which frankly takes no skill and drives me distracted. The addition of secondary weapons i feel also spoils the game since machine pistols like the pp2000 and the spas12 shotgun are better than some primary weapons and more or less invincible at close-quarters.
The killstreak system also encourages camping since people are desperate for those high streak rewards and over-powered rewards like the chopper-gunner are impossible to counter, particularly for the first 25 ranks(out of 70) where there is no way to hide or shoot it down.
Nevertheless, i am absolutly addicted as the sheer level of customisation is superb, the maps are excellent and the above factors make it very easy to score highly. I would give the multiplayer 2/5 since it would have been so easy to have kept the amazing gameplay of COD4&5 and simply added the maps, weapons and customisation options. It would seem that IW have sacrificed the emphasis on practise and skill in an effort to attract more customers and make more money, which is understandable but a pity.
Overall, the game is good fun; if you haven't played previous CODs or struggled with them you'll love the multiplayer whilst the campaign and spec ops will keep you entertained for hours. Worth the money. 3.5/5
Industry Standard July 23, 2010 Doc Savage Playing this game and COD 1 has ruined my gaming experience forever. Everything I now play has to be compared to this industry standard and nearly everything pales in comparison. Brilliant game, well designed and programmed.
Great campaign, ok story, lousy multiplayer July 21, 2010 DeviousMan 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Modern warefare 2 the game that likes to burn a hole in your pocket.
Overpriced and overrated this game embodies all of the glorious aspects that a games distributer would want before release popular, visually stunning great gameplay a cash cow for everyone involved in its release. How is it you ask that I hate this game?
well.....
Single Player
The single player is short but definately emersive and has a lot of atmosphere which is the only thing going for it(you will definately feel a sense of de javu when playing the story as some of the missions come close to the film the rock Nicolas Cage Sean Connery) however the storyline is weak at best in comparison to the story from MW1 which was a lot better ( for those of you who played it, it'd be like comparing Bioshock 2 storyline with Bioshock 1's) 3/10 story 8/10 fun
Multiplayer
The multiplayer is extremely over the top this doesn't add to the experience and makes it feel cheap and arcadey. The blood that comes up on screen looks more like jelly, there are no vehicles (i do not count being in a chopper gunner for 60 seconds as a vehicle) and on the whole, the mulitplayer is chaotic and frustrating I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who wants a realistic Modern Warfare shooter if thats what you want try BFBC2. Also there are so many hackers out there you dont have a clue who is or who isn't hacking, I'm talking about free 10th prestige, aim bot, super fast, free ac130s the full 9 yards. I actually know people who sell infections (gets you into the hackers lobby where you recieve free 10th prestige, aim bot etc) to other players for MS points, how pointless is this? the only reason you are good at the game is because you cheat so whats the point in playing?? 2/10
Summary
COD used to pride itself on its realism and although this is a sequel its somehow managed to take a step back instead of forwards. The only good thing about this game is you'll never be short of people to play with this game is world wide, but as previously stated you'll never know if everyone is playing fair or not.
General
Hosting is a redundant way of playing games online and all future xbox 360 games should be played on servers to avoid lag and feedback tampering(if you ever played Gears2 when it first came out because of the hosting system it ruined the game and made online play virtually impossible), I suspect that they are deliberately avoiding applying servers to online games to cut costs. Also Microsoft needs to deal with the hackers, consoles used to be great because cheats could'nt screw with the system and after playin the latest consoles its given me food for thought Pc has cheaper games, secured and cracked servers I could download games for free including all content FOR FREE something which the consoles lack and game manufacturers now are deliberately leaving stuff out of their games just so they can sell it on marketplace 1 month later. Seriously wanna save money get one up on the big companies???? buy all the parts individually and build you're own pc.
