Still not good enough September 10, 2010 Shard (UK) The system is STILL too loud. The console is a lot quieter, but the PSU roars like a jet engine still.
The glossy finish is a real pain in the backside too. I find myself constantly polishing it to remove fingerprints and dust.
The machine only plays DVD's - no blu-ray compatibility, and the hard drive is proprietary, meaning you won't be able to pop in an upgraded one on the cheap from PC world like you can on the PS3.
The control pad suffers from a poor D-Pad (which Microsoft will rectify next year for an additional £40)
On the plus side, I'm pleased to see that Microsoft have finally decided to include Wi-Fi out of the box and the exra USB ports are a welcome addition.
Just needs a lint free cloth ! September 8, 2010 Mikejh7 (Essex UK) You may think the title a bit strange,Yes? well the reason for that is I always read other gamers reviews before I totally commit to buying unless I have prior hands on knowledge of the product.
So the reason for the title is because one of the reviews about the new X-box said that it was not worth the pricetag and also being black it will have fingerprints all over it ! Maybe it's because I was 61 yesterday and still very much an avid gamer that it made me think 'what a stupid comment to make ' After mine arrived yesterday and I set it up which took but a few minutes including connecting wi-fi I wiped my fingerprints off with a soft dry lint free cloth and would you believe it it looked like new again !!
I think this is a great new x-box 360 and it has had more thought gone into to get rid of RROD and it is quiet, and come on guys 250gb of hardrive which is smaller and placed better into the box very nice! Setting it up was a doddle and when I get the kinect as well what an awesome piece of gear we have. it has quirky new sounds and it looks professional and plays great with fantastic graphics and a simple HD cable which I had spare and you have a great gamers console at your disposal !!Xbox 360 250GB (250GB Hard Drive) (Xbox 360)
Does was it says on the tin September 7, 2010 T.Rust 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very happy with this purchase, it's an Xbox, it's slightly slimmer/smaller, it works, it has nice touch buttons and makes some new noises when you turn it on. It's quiet, but once you play a game on a disc it does get a little louder; still not to the jet engine level of the older Xboxs though.
Pretty much what you'd expect.
Runs fine if you use the hard drive. August 31, 2010 Harry Cottam 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This xbox is a little bit smaller than the old versions which is obviously better. It does get very dusty because of the type of plastic that covers it but this isn't too much of a problem. The hard drive is now inserted underneath which makes it hard to remove but you don't remove it too much anyway. It is whisper quiet if you use the 250GB space and install your games. The power box is probably louder than the xbox. The touch controls on the front can be annoying when you touch them by accident but just have to be careful. It looks much better and runs alot better than my old xbox. I recommend you buy it.
First time with a 360 and sold it within a week August 30, 2010 Tammy Stevens (York, UK) 4 out of 31 found this review helpful
I really don't get it?
I have owned a PS3 for 3 years now and love it but given Kinect was coming out I thought I'd get a 360 and give it a bash...
OK so here's why I got rid....
1. It's SO LOUD... The external power supply has a fan built in it which sounds like a jet engine.
2. The controllers are heavy and need batteries? what? seriously? I had to go and buy batteries and a charger.
3. I have to pay to go online? seriously?
4. Networking movies is damn near impossible to set up fast, I have a QNAP TS210 set up with Twonky media server and 3 TV's, PS3 and Sony Blu-ray player all see it fine. Yet the xbox doesn't see it? so I transfered a movie to a flash drive, to play it the 360 wanted some file off the net first, selected that but then it wanted me to sign up to live to get it. What a faff on, after everything it still didn't work, spent several hours and eventually got it working but then found it won't play half my files, most of them need re-encoding.
5. Design, it's ugly, plasticy, why did they give the matt finish to the cheaper version? I'd have much preffered that.
6. The games, as a big racing fan (own Dirt 2, GT P, Motorstorm) I was looking forward to trying out forza 3 and PGR4, well that was a let down, graphics are awful.
7. I though this was a serious console? yet when I turn it on it's like a wii, I have to create and dress a flippin charachter, I felt like a ten year old.
8. The Menu's, slow, poorly designed etc etc (I did like the boot up graphics though)
9. No Gigabit ethernet
10. No Dual Band Wireless N
11. You have to use propietary Hard Drives (I have a 640gb 2.5" in my PS3)
12. Xbox live, after signing up to the 1 month free trial I got I went online with COD4 something I love on the PS3, all I got was a bunch of yanky teenagers talking rubbish and foul mouthed.
13. no blu-ray drive
14. Playing games in the dark is a nightmare as you get a really bright green LED on the controller blinding you.
15. I sometimes also play in bed when the Mrs is asleep but I can't with this, 1. because the console is so loud and 2. because the controllers are really clicky and noisy.
Save your money and get a PS3, a much better overall experience.
